Hawaii 2008

Roger and Susan arrived early and spent two days at the beautiful Waikoloa Village Hilton Resort.  Here we are enjoying breakfast by the waterfalls with all of the birds.

Waipi'o Valley Before The Hike - The guidebook described 2 beautiful waterfalls with a 1,200 foot drop.  It was only a mile down but "straight" up.  To our extreme disappointment the waterfalls were dry and the hike back up had to be several miles at least!!

Then Susan and Roger spent two nights at a beautiful cottage in the rain forest next to Volcano National Park.

Roger & Susan and later in the week the rest of the group minus Sarah and Josh hiked Kilauea Iki at Volcano National Park.  It is a 400 foot descent through native rain forest into a crater and then a hike across a frozen lava lake still steaming from the 1959 eruption.

An hour south of the park at Kalapana, Susan and Roger got to view the lava flowing into the ocean.

Jason and Kristin were first to arrive and we enjoyed lunch together by the ocean before the big grocery trip.

Time to Snorkel With Lots of Fish and Sea Turtles

The next day we enjoyed the white sand beach and the big waves.

At first Sarah wanted to immediately wash off the sand, but once she got into it she had a great time.
